Our Environmental Policy

In line with life cycle costings Eastwood Limited aim to recycle a minimum of 85 per cent of all demolition material on site.

Typically, we operate our recycling and waste operations on demolition sites as follows:

  • All salvageable material that can be reused is removed prior to demolition i.e. slates, timbers, windows, fittings, flooring, etc.

  • The building is demolished and segregated with grapple equipment into rubble piles, timber, concrete etc. If old Belfast brick are part of the structure they are packed on pallets for reuse.

  • The recyclable material is transported to our recycling facility where the timber is shredded for reuse, the concrete and rubble is screened and crushed for reuse as aggregate on piling beds, road bases, etc.

  • Glass is transferred for glass recycling. All scrap metals are recycled at scrap processors.

Where site conditions permit, recycling of rubble and concrete is carried out on site with our mobile crushing units, with material reused for infilling of ground, piling mats or roadways on site, minimising transportation and maximising recycling.

Due to restraints on timescales and location it is not always possible to recycle material on site. In these instances, we can take advantage of having 24/7 access to our three company owned licensed Envirowaste Facilities at Crosshill Road, Crumlin; Dunmurry and Shore Road, Newtownabbey. At the Envirowaste facilities we have extensive plant and equipment for recycling including picking station, screeners, crushers and shredders.
